RENOVATION OF MOTHER LOUISA ORPHANAGE
This project implemented in a suburban community in Enugu, provided livelihood and wellness support to Mother Louisa Orphanage housing 78 children with special needs aged 3 months to 15 years. This facility had challenges with severe lack of sanitation and hygiene amenities that predisposed the children to preventable communicable diseases such as diarrhoea, intestinal parasites, dysentery, typhoid, malaria, pneumonia, and other water borne diseases. As a result, the facility was at a high risk of COVID-19 transmission.
iphAE mobilized resources and conducted facility upgrade to improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene practices in the facility. This upgrade include the remodelling of the floor tiles, painting, provision of new beds and mattresses, provision of water storage tanks, and installation of audio-visual appliances.
According to the proprietress, Mother Louisa Ekwe, '' These iphAE people are God sent, and the work they have done here have saved the lives of these children from COVID-19 and other diseases. This support is a motivation to all our efforts. We are overwhelmed and we cannot thank them enough.''

Back to School Health Projects
iphAE identified school health promotion, access and empowerment as being vital to strengthening of population health. Available evidence suggests that many school age children do not have access to school health assessment, and as a result, many childhood illnesses remain unidentified timely for optimal interventions.
The Back to School program is a community based intervention that provides free access to school aged children to have wholesome health and nutritional assessment by qualified health professionals at the resumption of school year.
This project conducted in collaborations with the SMOH, UNICEF, Institute of Child Health UNTH, Dosso Hospital Services and Child Life Medical Center, provided free nutritional screening, malaria screening, deworming, and treatment of common childhood illnesses to over 500 school aged children since its inception.
